Do you have a decent post engagement on Facebook? Do you want to increase that engagement 2x? Well, this blog is for perfect for you.
In this blog, we are going to discuss a factor that can increase your engagement with the audience on Facebook. This one small change can add a lot more value to your post. I did one slight change in my posts, and my Facebook post engagement increased by 929%.
So, let’s discuss this in details.
Facebook has more than 1.94 billion active users. This large number of users shows that Facebook is a huge market place. Obviously, it’s the first choice of every marketer and business owner when it comes to online marketing.
In one simple sentence, “audience engagement on Facebook matters a lot.”
If you’re reading this blog, you must be a business owner, marketer, or want to learn the art of internet marketing. Am I right? Yes.
So, without wasting any more time, let’s start…
Facebook Post Engagement,
You have already know what content on Facebook grabs the most attention.
A picture speaks a thousand words.
Visual content is more than 40 times more likely to get shared on social media than other types of content. An image creates more engagement on social media than text. Video marketing is proved best marketing strategy in 2017.
Images and videos create most engagement on social media. These are not only words, experts, have tested these tactics. Brands are using these form of content to grow themselves on social media platforms.
But, there is one more factor that helps in boosting your Facebook post.
That factor is post size. In other words, post dimensions.
Above screenshot is of Insight of Social Dong’s Facebook Business Page. You can see that from 31 Aug 2017- 6 Sep 2017, Post engagement is increased by 929%. I did nothing extraordinary. I just focused on posting particular size posts, and it worked for me.
Well, different platforms have different size requirements. In this blog, we’ll discuss only one platform, Facebook.
Now, you’ll say, what rubbish are you talking Hardik? Facebook has no size restrictions on posts. High quality, an attractive content of any size can grab audience attention on Facebook. Marketers are posting different size content on Facebook and creating post engagement from a decade.
But, Wait! Today, I will prove you; particular post size can generate more engagement on Facebook.
Another day I was reading an article on Ideal Image Sizes for Social Media Posts written by Kevan Lee (Twitter). It was written very well. I understood more about post’s sizes. While reading that excellent article, one thing I noticed; Square size posts goes well on Facebook.
Yes! Square size posts. Square size posts generate more engagement on Facebook than other size posts like landscape and portrait.
Here, I’m not talking about YouTube or Blog links. I’m only talking about Image and video content.
Square size posts on Facebook,
It’s 2017; more people are using Facebook on their mobile phones. If a large number of people are using Facebook on their cell phone, that means a bigger market is moving towards small screens.
So, it’s important to make your content strategy considering the mobile audience.
When it comes to Facebook marketing, you’re not the only one. Other competitors are there too. You are not the only one with your excellent product. If you can’t keep the audience with you, others are there to grab them.
It’s important that once your audience sees your post, you should grab their whole attention. For that, you can create quality content and use correct Call to Action.
But, one thing which fails the whole plan is other posts on Facebook. So, what is the solution for that? Well, for that you need to cover more space on the mobile screen.
Let me explain you by comparing all post sizes on Facebook.
Typical post types on Facebook:
The most preferred post format on Facebook is Landscape. The landscape images are the one in horizontal format.
If you upload a landscape image, it will be scaled to 476 pixels wide, and the height will be adjusted accordingly.
In above diagram, you can see that when you upload a landscape post, it does not cover the whole screen. No matter what size you upload, Facebook will convert it to standard size.
The user can see your post but also a glance at other’s post. Obviously, it will not affect your post, because at the end your content matters. But, as I said, you need to keep your audience with you.
For more understanding, look at the screenshot I took on my cell phone.
Another post format is portrait. If you upload a portrait image, it will be scaled to 476 pixels wide, and the height will be adjusted accordingly but to a maximum of 714 pixels tall.
In above diagram, you can see a portrait post covers the whole screen. But, still, it’s not the perfect post size.
It covers the entire screen, more than it should. Most time what happens is, post image or video covers the whole screen and users can’t even see the brand name or caption.
Even I’ve seen some posts which are so large that you’ve to scroll down to see the whole post.
If you use a portrait post with a limited height, obviously it will not affect. But, that doesn’t happen well if the caption is large.
Here is a real time example,
In above screenshot, that post was too large that I have to scroll to see the whole post. You can see the post engagement is high because we all know sarcasm is one of the largest Facebook page. But, I hope you got my point.
If you upload a square image to share, it will be 476 pixels square. That is 476 Px wide and 476 Px height.
If you’ve looked at the pictures carefully, you’ve noticed square post cover the whole screen.
Brand name, caption, and action buttons (Like, comment, & share) are perfectly visible. You can’t see the glance of any other post.
The audience can see the post, will know who had posted this, can read your caption with a call to action, and can use the action button directly.
Well, I could not find any other square post. LOL But, let’s focus on the square format.
Brand name(Page name), caption, post and action buttons are visible. And it covers the full screen.
Now, you know particular post size can generate more engagement on Facebook. Landscape, Portrait, and square are the most common post format used on Facebook. In this, three formats, Square post format work the best.
A square size post protects your potential customer (Audience) from getting influenced by any other post. It covers the whole mobile screen.
In results, you can see the engagement growth on Facebook.
