After Christmas and new year, valentine’s day is the next big shopping festival.
Also, this is the right time to come up with a social media marketing strategy to make a huge profit.
In this blog, I’m going to share three strategies, which you can use to increase your sales on this valentine’s day.
Valentine’s day is celebrated on 14th Feb and for building up the hype of valentine’s day, a full valentine’s week is celebrated starting from 7th Feb.
Rose Day, Propose Day, Chocolate Day, Teddy Day, Promise Day, Kiss Day, Hug Day — in this order these seven days that come before valentine’s day are celebrated.
On valentine’s week, people spend a lot of money on jewelry, clothing, flowers, chocolates, greeting cards, food, movies, and different gift items.
The Indian market has seen drastic growth on valentine’s week from last several years.
In 2015, online retailers and shoppers were expected to earn Rs. 22,000 crore (3.5 billion USD) from valentine’s day shopping.
From Times of India report, last year in the city like Delhi people has spent Rs 6 crore (1 million USD) on red roses on valentines day.
Valentine’s day is a great opportunity, especially for B2C space businesses. That means if you do business directly with consumers, you can expect growth in sales.
It is also the useful time to release new products and try new offers.
When we talk about valentine’s day, the primary consumers are between 18 to 44 years old. And social media is the best place to target this demographic.
Social media marketing is not a new thing anymore.
Everyone knows it, and everyone uses it too. And that’s why you’ll find social media already filled with competitors.
You have to stand out from your competition to win this race. For that, you need a planned social media strategy.
Here, are the best three strategies to grow sales on this valentine’s day:
#1 Keep The Gifts Ready
In 2017, we have seen a lot of Instagram and YouTube celebrities saying thanks to brands for sending free products. And that’s what the first strategy I will suggest you for this valentine’s day.
Influencer marketing is the fantastic marketing technique, but still lot of businesses haven’t tried this yet.
The biggest problem which brands face is lack of marketing budget. You can solve this problem by sending free products to micro influencers.
Let’s break this into steps:
Step 1: Find an Influencer.
Anyone with thousands of followers is not an influencer. It just takes few minutes to buy fake followers.
You need to choose the influencer based on your product and targeted demographics.
If you sell ladies skin care or beauty products, find someone who has expertise in it, like a skin specialist doctor, or a beautician.
Don’t go for a young Instagram model just because she has thousands of followers and likes-comments on her posts.
Yes! I know, these divas influence people, but in most cases, you’ll notice 80% to 90% of their followers are males; who just aren’t interested in buying your skin care products.
So, find the right person with right influence for your product.
Step 2: Choose something to offer.
Everyones knows your sending gifts for your brand promotion, but don’t make it too obvious.
Influencers have strong influence because they genuinely care about their audience.
So, do something or send something which will help their audience.
You can offer something like a unique discount code or a gift coupon giveaway only for their audience. Anything which will be beneficial for the audience will work.
If you can’t do anything like this, choose something which influencers will love it.
Step 3: Approach them.
You have found a right influencer; you’ve something to offer, now it’s time to approach them.
Best way to approach them is by an email. Some of them prefer direct messages on social media, but I will still suggest going for an email.
While writing email don’t put anything like promote my product/service or anything like that. As I said, don’t make it obvious.
Start with appreciating their work, and then ask for their permission to offer whatever you’ve for them.

If you’re approaching two or more influencers, do not copy-paste the message. Write a personalized email to everyone.
One more thing, don’t write an essay. Be clear and write in few lines; They don’t have time to read your long emails.
#2 Put Your Hands On Viral Marketing
You can’t predict which content will go viral. But, you can plan and try to create viral content.
Viral marketing is an excellent way to reach out to a broad audience in small time span and with the low marketing cost.
Now, the question is how to create viral content. Again, to make it easy to understand, let’s break this process into small steps.
Steps to create viral content:
Step 1: Select the content and content format.
Remember one thing- it’s not necessary that you only have to create an impressive video to make it viral; A Tweet can also go viral.
The important is the value you’re going to serve through your content.
Here, is an example, this YouTube channel called Wendy’s Lookbook has 665K subscribers, but still, this video has 41.5M views.
The reason why this video went viral is the content value. If you see this video, you can easily guess it has very low production cost.
First thing first, choose a content format- text, image, video.
You can choose a format based on your product and also, the resources available to create content.
For instance, if you run a gift shop, you can try your hands on video content like How-To videos.
Like, a video series on how to create gifts at home under Rs. 100.
Every single day people watch How-To videos on Facebook and Instagram.
And on valentine’s day, a lot of people search for this kind of ideas. Well, because first, it’s budget friendly and second is people appreciate when they receive handmade gifts.
So, chances of going viral are very high.
Step 2: Create content.
If you’re planning to copy someone’s idea, then please stop right now. Only original content go viral.
So, let’s focus on creating something of your own.
You can always hire a freelancer to create content for you.
There are many sites like Freelancer, UpWork to find good writers, editors, graphic designers, video editors, video creators.
Step 3: Content distribution.
Once, you’ve created a piece of content, it is essential to distribute it correctly.
Suppose, you’ve written a blog on ten things every girl should expect on valentine’s day.
Now, you can’t just share that blog on your social media channels and then wait for it to go viral.
I know many times that’s how content go viral, but here we’re planning for viral content; so you need to distribute in that way only.
You can take help of influencer marketing; You can send your content to influencers in your niche and ask them what they think about it.
Not every influencer is going to respond, but if you’re targeting micro influencer chances are they’ll reply to you.
And if they like your content chances are they will share with their audience or if you got a positive response, ask them to share it with their followers.
Another great way is paid promotion- boost your content on Facebook and Instagram.
So, that’s it.
Focus on content because at the end content is the king.

Also, here, it’s very important to create content wisely. If you’re planning something out of the box, be prepared for both good and bad reactions.
Viral content is a gamble, it may give your business a drastic boost, or you may have to face a lot of haterade.
#3 Spend Some Money If You Can
First two strategies work great to grab the attention of the large audience. But in both approaches, you can’t use a proper Call To Action in many cases.
A Call To Action is essential to guide your audience on what they have to do next.
Another thought is when you have a product which is very expensive or which target a specific audience; then it’s hard to expect good ROI.
The reason is, in both above strategies you target a mixed audience. That means some people may aren’t your targeted customers.
So, that’s why I like to suggest the third strategy as paid social media advertising.
You already know, you can expect guaranteed results with paid advertising if performed correctly. So, why not use a strategy which always works.
The only problem with this is you’ve to invest some amount; You can’t go on zero budget.
For reaching out to targeted audience Facebook, Instagram works pretty well. If your audience is very young, Snapchat is another cool option.

Make sure you create some attention-grabbing images or videos and use right Call To Action to maximize your results.
Service-based businesses can offer some great discounts or deals to increase their customer visits on valentine week.
For example, suppose you run a ladies saloon. You can offer men to buy gift cards for their better half.
Gift cards, discount coupons, vouchers these works phenomenally as gifts in today’s online world.
Restaurant owners can offer couple discount on valentine’s day.
Product based businesses can directly advertise your products with Buy Now option.
Valentine’s week is a significant opportunity for all B2C space businesses. If you use this opportunity correctly, you can boost your sales.
You can use my three social media strategies with your old marketing tactics to make a considerable profit.
So, which strategy are you planning to use on this valentine’s day? Let me know in the comment section. And don’t forget to share this helpful information with your team.
