Every day I notice a lot of people doing things which they should avoid or probably stop doing on Instagram. These things make your profile unappealing, inappreciable and it annoys followers too. So, you must avoid these mistakes on Instagram.
It’s okay if you’ve ever done these things, don’t be embarrassed. Even I made these mistakes. Here is my take on things you should never do on Instagram.
Well, I know there are no such Instagram rules and regulations. It’s your account; you can do whatever you want to.
But when you’ve business running on Instagram. Or you’re one of those crazy Instagram obsessed people who cares what your followers think about you. Then you should consider such things on Instagram.
These are the some of the unwritten rules of Instagram.
10 Things You Should Never Do On Instagram:
Before we start, let me educate you a little bit. There are some application and sites for chatting and group discussions. Even Instagram has Direct Message feature. You can use it for personal and group chats. Also, the comment section is for commenting on the post. Use it for giving your views, opinions on the content of the post.
Please don’t make comment section as a chat box. People often start conversion in the comment section. It’s nice getting engaged through comments. But set some limitations on interaction in the comment section. Long comment sessions put other relevant comments out of sight.
Sometimes followers ask doubt or give their views in a row. Providing a response to them is important. But instead of starting a conversion, you can solve their query in Direct Message. Just reply “Please check your DM” and start as good conversion over there.
I’m not at all against the use of Hashtags. I love them. Hashtags are just amazing. Instagram allows you to use up to 30 Hashtags per post. Hashtags help in finding similar interest people on Instagram. They are instrumental while promoting business on Instagram.
You should always use appropriate Hashtags for your post. But Hashtag should be relevant. That means Hashtag should be related to your post. It doesn’t matter you are using 4 or all the 30 Hashtags. The important part is which Hashtags you are using.
I saw a post where Hashtag #TBT (Hashtag used for posting old photos on Thursday) is used. Picture’s caption says “A day well spent” and the picture is posted on Sunday night. Okay! Then my question is what’s throw back in this? You are clicking a picture on the same day and posting it not even on Thursday.
Or posting a picture of your pet and using Hashtags like #nature #fashion #selfie #art just because these are famous and more people will see the post. But trust me, relevant tags, create a more positive impact on the post.
Here, is an article from Hootsuite.com on how to choose appropriate Hashtag.
3.Follow to Unfollow
Yes! Follow someone, like their posts. Once they have noticed you and started following you, unfollow them. That’s how you grow your Instagram followers.
Follow and unfollow to gain followers. Right?
Well, wrong. If you’re one of them who do this, you should stop doing that. Follow anyone only if you’re seriously like his/her content. Don’t just follow to unfollow.
4.Low-Quality Pictures and videos
People love HD picture and video.
You can’t post status and check-in on Instagram. The only content you can share is photos and videos. So it’s important to share high-quality content. No one likes poor quality posts.
People often don’t think much. They just click a picture and post it on Instagram. Nobody wants to see the improper background, dark image, and strange angle of the picture.
Here, I’m not telling you to use professional DSLR cameras. Use your phone camera. That’s been perfectly fine. Just be smart enough when you click a picture. Always keep in mind,
- Don’t click a picture in low light.
- Try different camera angles.
- Use Instagram filters and editing apps to increase picture quality.
Don’t use cheap tricks to gain followers. Like buying followers, using an application which gives you followers. Don’t try to add the ghost or fake followers.
Organic followers lead to more engagement with posts.
People buy followers. They gain thousands of followers in a few hours. But, what’s the use it? If you have 10K followers and you get only 100 likes on the post. Anyone will guess that you’ve bought followers if they see your post and engagement of the post.
Don’t buy followers. Share quality content.
6.Essay Writing Competition
Many profiles on Instagram have participated in an essay competition. They have excellent writing skills. These people write a fantastic article on ‘myself’ in profile bio. They don’t skip a single information about themselves.
Jokes apart, the bio should give an idea to people about yourself. Not in a long description, but in few words. Many people on Instagram don’t even read the bio if it’s too long and messy.
Tell about yourself, your interest, qualification, work. But try to keep it short and straightforward. Short, meaningful bio grab peoples’ attention.
7.Please! Like My Post
One thing I understood, no matter its Facebook or Instagram, people tell you to like their post.
People at first, they like your post and then comment “Like for Like?” This trick may work to some extent, but it lowers your profile value.
Personally, if someone did that to me, I will never like his/her picture. Even though that person shares outstanding content. That happens to many other people on Instagram.
The more consistent you are, the more you grow. People love those profiles who post often. Experts recommend to post more frequently; it keeps followers engaged. It’s perfect if you post daily or maybe twice a day. But the things that ruin all benefits of posting often is Time Gap between posts.
Some people make this mistake of posting pictures in a row. Suppose, you’ve to post two pictures in a single day. Then, instead of posting it one after the others, post one and then after some hours post the other one.
If you had a fabulous weekend and you’ve lots of great posts to upload. Then go to Facebook, create an album and upload there. Don’t start posting pictures in a row. People hate spammers.
It’s 2017, and finally, Instagram has added the feature of multi upload in a single post. Use that if you have a similar post to share.
These personalities have their social media accounts. They keep their account private. Their display picture shows 0.5% of their face, and they keep their name as something in which they are interested. You can’t search them. Their profile is not recognizable. I don’t know why they are on Instagram.
Social media is for social interaction. Be more open to it.
The major mistake people often do is, they don’t give a caption to post. You don’t need to be a writer to write a caption. Well, it’s an advantage if you’re good at writing a caption. But it’s okay if you can’t.
Only describe what the post is about and why you’re posting it. Something is better than nothing. Don’t miss the opportunity for Call to Action in the caption. Caption plays a significant role in growing followers.
Instagram is wonderful social media platform. Be smart while using Instagram. If you avoid making these mistakes, you can build an excellent presence on Instagram. Observe all Instagram influencers, and try to act like them on Instagram.
This is my take on things you should never do on Instagram, and you should probably stop making these mistakes. If you like to add some more things, let me know in the comment section.
